Notifications

New-mail notifications and the option to keep QuickMail running in the notification area when you close the window are both off by default. To turn them on, go to Settings → General → Notifications.

Show a Notification When New Mail Arrives

When this setting is on, QuickMail shows a Windows notification as new mail arrives in any inbox. The notification is announced by screen readers and appears in the Windows notification center, which you open with Win+N on Windows 11 (or Win+A on Windows 10). Pressing Enter on a notification brings QuickMail to the foreground and opens that message.

If multiple messages arrive together, the notification shows a count (“5 new messages”) and brings QuickMail to the foreground when activated. Single-message notifications show the sender’s name and subject and open that message.

Notifications require Windows 10 1809 or later.

Keep Running in the Notification Area When You Close the Window

When this setting is on, closing the main window hides QuickMail to the notification area (system tray) instead of exiting, so it keeps running and new-mail notifications continue to arrive. To restore the window:

• From a notification: press Enter on any new-mail notification.
• From the tray icon: move focus to the notification area with Win+B, arrow to the QuickMail icon, and press Enter (or the Menu key, then arrow to Open QuickMail and press Enter).
• Double-activate the tray icon: move focus to the notification area (Win+B) and double-activate QuickMail.

To quit when this setting is on:

• Use File → Exit from the app menu bar, or
• From the tray icon, press the Menu key and arrow to Exit QuickMail.

The first time you hide the window to the tray, a notification explains that QuickMail is still running — this message appears once only.
